Kasturbagram Rural Institute is a Rural Institute established by Indian Council for Rural Higher Education on July 25, 1963 and under the patronage of Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust which was established by Mahatma Gandhi, in 1945 in the memory of his wife Kasturba and with the joint efforts of the Central Government of India, Madhya Pradesh Government. In 1948, an Education Committee was constituted by Government of India, headed by DR. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, which recommended forming of Rural Institutes all over India. The Shrimali Commission decided to establish Rural Institutions as per recommendations of Education. This Institute was opened with the joint efforts of the Central Government of India, Madhya Pradesh Government and Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, Kasturbagram, Indore Committee. In 1956, a National Council for Rural Higher education was set up by the Government of India, which established 14 Rural Institutes from 1956 to 1963. Kasturbagram Rural Institute was the last but most important as it was set up only for rural women. Kasturbagram Rural Institute is affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishvavidyalaya since 1969 and earned autonomous College status in 1987.
College provides the facility of unfurnished quarters in the campus to faculty and staff of the college.
The institute has the facility of audio visual aids and audio visual room where students experience learning in an effective manner. The institution has a multi-functional hall cum auditorium with well-equipped facility to organize wide variety of events.
There are three hostels for the students . There is provision of all basic amenities in the hostels.
The college has the provision of various well-established laboratories in Home Science, Science, Computer and various applied courses
APPLIED COURSES are being taught to students to give them knowledge about vocational courses which helps them to grow professionally in various fields. Courses like Handicraft, Food preservation, Physical education and Yoga, Journalism, Dairy Science, Applied Physics and Garment Technology are the Applied Courses courses that students study for two years.
A well equip computer lab with 37 systems is available in the college . All the students in the college are given computer education to keep them abreast to latest education and trends in professional fields.
